FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 13, 2026
JEFFERSON, Wis. – The Jefferson County Fall Clean Sweep will be held on Friday, September 18 from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, September 19 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the City of Watertown Street Department, 811 South First Street in Watertown. The event is open to households, farms, and small businesses to properly dispose of their hazardous waste.
We require phone pre-registration (920-674-7430) for this event. Households and farms, please register by Wednesday, September 16 at 4:00 p.m.; you are welcome to bring items from multiple residences/families. Small businesses, please register by Thursday, September 10 or earlier. You will complete an inventory record of your items and will receive an estimated disposal cost (based on weight) payable at the event. Waste from small businesses will be accepted on Friday only.

Fees for households and farms are $10 cash per trunkload, $50 cash per truckload, and $100 cash per truck and trailer; 10 light bulbs are included in these prices. Additional fees are charged for tires, propane cylinders, fire extinguishers, and large quantities of light bulbs. City of Watertown residents will not be charged a fee for their hazardous waste but will be charged a per-item fee for small propane cylinders and fire extinguishers. Businesses may pay by credit card or company check.
New for 2026: We are accepting one-pound propane cylinders. The cost is $5 per cylinder. Cylinders will be accepted both Friday and Saturday. We are also partnering with H&H Fire Protection of Fort Atkinson to collect ABC and CO2 fire extinguishers for proper disposal. The cost is $8 per fire extinguisher. Extinguishers will only be collected on Saturday. Jefferson County is excited to add these services and provide safe recycling options for residents.
What is considered hazardous waste? Typically, any product that contains any of the following words: “Danger, Warning, Caution, Poison, Flammable, or Corrosive.” These items should be brought to a Clean Sweep event. For a full list of accepted hazardous waste, go to https://www.jeffersoncountywi.gov/planning_and_development/clean_sweep___recycling_events/index.php(Opens in new window).

Please note: Unused prescription medications, electronics, appliances, and latex paint will not be accepted at this event. Latex paint may be dried out and tossed in your trash; empty paint containers should be recycled. Unused prescription medications can be taken to one of the 10 medication drop boxes located in local police departments throughout the County. Electronics and appliances can be brought to our event at the Jefferson County Fair Park on Saturday, October 17 from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m.
